Haiti: IDB to Donate $110 Million for Social Purposes

The initiative will finance the continuum of essential integrated and progressive care in areas such as maternal and child nutrition, institutional delivery and management of obstetric complications.
On Tuesday, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) stated that it will donate 110 million US dollars to Haiti, a Caribbean nation in need of a social investment process.

The agency – which previously released USD 16 million – aims to support plans for food security, public health and the inclusion of vulnerable children and youth.
The initiative will finance the continuum of essential integrated and progressive care in areas such as maternal and child nutrition, institutional delivery and management of obstetric complications.
With this funding, the IDB aims to contribute to family planning and follow-up care for victims of gender-based violence, according to Le Nouvelliste newspaper.
The resources will also go towards the fight to prevent and control HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, as well as the detection and care of patients with chronic diseases.
These funds will support household income to support food consumption by financing unconditional cash transfers for 165,000 people.
